Kathmandu: The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) National Unity Campaign, led by Bamdev Gautam, has officially merged with the CPN (Unified Socialist). The decision was finalized in the party’s central committee meeting held in Bhaisepati, where leaders conducted a review of the campaign’s four-year journey and approved the unification move.
Merger Based on Ideological Unity
According to party officials, the merger was made possible due to an alignment in political philosophy, principles, programs, and strategy between the two groups. Leaders from both parties had reached a mutual understanding to work toward the unification of Nepal’s communist movement.
The CPN (Unified Socialist) had already instructed its internal party committees to participate in the formal merger event, held today at the National Assembly.
Leaders to Address the Unification Ceremony
The unification meeting was set to be addressed by CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, and campaign coordinator Bamdev Gautam.
Damodar Aryal, Deputy Chief of the Central Propaganda Department, informed that preparations for the program were complete, including the merger agenda and the ranking of leaders in the new unified structure.
Background: Split from UML in 2077 BS
Both parties had split from the then Nepal Communist Party (UML) in 2077 BS and had been operating separately since then. Over the past years, formal and informal discussions were held between leaders of both factions to explore unification.
In the newly unified party, Bamdev Gautam has been assigned a senior position, immediately following Chairman Nepal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, based on a consensus ranking system.
This merger is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the fragmented communist movement in Nepal and build momentum ahead of future political developments.
